We
will hold a school-wide Thanksgiving
Celebration/Potluck event on 11/22. Here’s a message from our event organizer Celia Chu:
Dear Parents,
We are looking for five (5) volunteers to bake a
turkey for our Thanksgiving/Harvest Festival that will take place in school on
Nov 22, 2009. We are planning to have the whole staff, student body and
parents to join in the fun. If you know how to roast a juicy turkey, you
are the person we’re looking for. The cost for the turkey will be
reimbursed by the school. Please contact me if you can help out on the
turkey issue. My email address is: snoopy0112@yahoo.com
We are also looking for parents’ participation
with other menu items. I’ll be in school every Sunday with a sign-up
sheet for you to choose what items you’d like to bring in.
Thank you very much in advance.

Teacher Interview
Interview grade 8 teacher Dai-Hua Shen by her
students Rachel, Vincent and Kairi
1.
How long have you been teaching Chinese Language?
I began teaching Chinese in the
fall of 1984 when I was a graduate student in Michigan State University. I have also taught Chinese Schools in
Connecticut for couple of years until my family moved to Lexington.
2.
What brought you to Chinese School?
Like most of the Chinese parents I
like my kids to know their heritage and be able to communicate in Chinese at
least orally. This was the main reason
that brought me to this community.
Looking back, I am fortunate that I made a great decision, not only for
my kids but also for myself. It gave me
the opportunities to make many good friends and enhance my teaching skills.
3.
What is the most challenging task in teaching Chinese based on your
opinion?
The motivation
of our students. To
successfully learning any language requires consistent efforts and the
language environment. English is the
dominant language in our daily life that limits the opportunities for our kids
to practice Chinese. The heavy academic
loads also affect the results. It’s
difficult for kids to truly understand the benefits of learning Chinese until
late on.
4.
What do you like to do at your leisure?
I enjoy watching movies both
Chinese and foreign. I also like gardening
during summer time. My favorite TV
program is Home and Garden.
