Newsletter - June 14, 2009

Principal: Andrew Shih

  • As we are into the final days of school, I want to extend my appreciation to all the parents who have supported the school in the past year. There is still time to get a registration discount for enrolling for the 2009-2010 school year on or before June 14.

  • The school’s final graduation ceremony will be held on June 14.  The event will begin at noon, with lunch being served prior to the ceremony, which will start at 1:30 PM. A gift lottery (prizes include a remote control helicopter and a 3-D game) will be held during the ceremony. Luncheon tickets can be purchased at the door for $6/adult and $4/child.

  • Next year the Traditional Dance extracurricular activity plans to hold two separate classes.  One class will be for students under the age of 6 or 7; the second class will be for students above 6 or 7 year old.  The class for older students will be taught by Ms. Na Zhou and will focus on basic technique, skills and understanding of dance movement. Na Zhou holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Performance from the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing and a Master’s Degree of Dance in Higher Education from New York University (NYU).

  • Thanks to all our teachers for their hard work during the year.  Their unselfish dedication of their time and effort provided a carefree learning environment for the children.  At the same time, we also give thanks to all the teaching assistants and volunteers, who eased the teachers’ administrative tasks and helped maintain classroom discipline.

  • Senior high school students can serve our school as part of fulfilling community service requirements for high school.  Beginning with the next school year, our school will conduct interviews to select qualified candidates.  Qualifications include:  (1) being a TCLS graduate with good listening and speaking skills in Chinese language; (2) being willing to serve from 1:55-4:00 PM in a language class and/or 3:55-5:00 PM in an extracurricular class or as a tutor for junior students; (3) being a role model for other students and committing to missing no more than four sessions of school.  Please contact Tung-mei Pan (tungmeipan@hotmail.com ) for more information and to arrange an interview time.

  • Teachers Chi-Shiang Ling (Adult class) and Cindy Kang (6th grade) will not be available to teach next year.  We hope they will return to our school in the near future.
